About Agricultural Development Trust (ADT)

Host Institution: The Agricultural Development Trust (ADT) was founded in 1968 by renowned social reformers Hon. Sharadchandra Pawar and his elder brother Padmashree Dr. D. G. Alias Appasaheb Pawar. The primary objective of the Trust is to serve the downtrodden masses and promote agricultural and educational development among them.

Situated 5 km from Baramati on the Baramati-Nira road, the Trust began its activities by constructing percolation tanks in the drought-prone area of Baramati Tahsil. These tanks were crucial in fulfilling the water requirements for drinking and agriculture.

In the year 1890, when Baramati faced a severe famine, people were starving for food and water, leading to famine riots. To address this crisis, the British rulers initiated the construction of the Nira Left Bank Canal, Khadakwasla Canal in Pune, and Krishna Canal near Karad. Later, in 1930, the British constructed the Loyed Bhatghar Dam on the Nira River.

The Agricultural Development Trust has since been at the forefront of agricultural innovation and education, playing a pivotal role in shaping the future of agriculture in India.
